Election of Vice President position (vacant)

  • Nominations were requested from the floor
  • One nomination – Lorraine Azarcon, RN (Health Services Director with Brandywine)
  • A show of hands established a unanimous determination to elect Lorraine as VP

Presentation by Lilly Pharmaceuticals – George Stazaki:  An Overview of Non-Insulin Diabetes Management Therapy

  • Trulicity – a once-weekly non-insulin injectable prescription medicine to improve glucose in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

o   No need for daily monitoring of blood sugar

o   Established positive outcomes in reduction of HgA1c

o   Can be used along with typical insulins

o   Comes in a easy to use pen injection that works with a simple click of a button to deliver the weekly dose:

  • Don’t have to see or handle a needle
  • Store pen in refrigerator or at room temperature for up to 14 days

Presentation by Fox Rehabilitation:  Specialized Parkinson’s Program in Assisted Living (Romeo Gallo is the contact at Fox Rehab)

  • LSVT (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment) BIG Certified therapists provide an intensive, effective one-on-one treatment to address walking, balance and other ADLs or even job-related tasks
  • Trains people to increase the size (amplitude) of their movements from head to toe. These improvements may also extend to smaller tasks like buttoning and/or writing
  • A holistic approach addressed not only movement issues but also takes into account non-motor symptoms including emotional changes and cognitive changes
  • Helps people to recalibrate to recognize when their movements are smaller or slower
  • Based on evidence bases strategies for learning and neuroplasticity
  • One month program:

o   One hour sessions

o   Four sessions a week

o   Four weeks in a row

o   Daily homework and carryover exercises

  • After initial treatment continue to practice at least once a day for 10 to 15 minutes
  • Tune-Up Sessions: therapist determines when individual returns for a re-assessment and periodic tune-up sessions
